As part of the overall workplace design at the new AllianceBernstein offices in Hudson Yards, I embarked on an ambitious project to create an interactive video wall installation powered by AI to generate a never-ending stream of unique visuals. The result was called the Dreamwall, an installation that blends art and technology in a groundbreaking way.

Dreamwall is powered by artificial intelligence image generation (Stable Diffusion through a Stability.ai API), enabling it to continuously produce abstract images that evolve in real-time. Inspired by the concept of AI machine hallucinations, I aimed to create a visual experience that is both dynamic and ever-changing. The AI processes a variety of inputs, generating on-the-fly prompts that feed the Stable Diffusion image generation, producing a constant stream of unique visuals with abstraction as their main visual theme.

Our goal with Dreamwall was to leverage AI as a creative tool, expanding the possibilities of digital art. By doing so, we offered a visual experience that is not only captivating but also perpetually new and exciting. The installation demonstrates how cutting-edge technology can enhance and transform artistic expression, providing viewers with an immersive and continually evolving experience.

The space

The digital experience was placed at the heard of the office space with a 35ft long high resolution display behind glass in the tea point space. as part of that room

The Idea

The idea was rather simple at it's core; Make the screens display a perpetually changing and "never the same" visual experience by constantly generating new and beautiful abstract images using Stable diffusion.

Image Generation

Using our custom software, we were able to generate a endless stream of carefully curated abstract visuals that would form the visual backbone of the content for the screens.

Movement & Interaction

The images were then processed through a TouchDesigner setup, which analyzed them and applied moving effects to create slight disturbances. Additionally, it collected movement data from LiDAR sensors within the space that created realtime reactive effects as people were moving in front of the screens.

Movement

Using the sensors in the hallway, the constant movements in this vital thoroughfare create an interesting and distinct real time interaction within the space.

The "Button"

Situated near the main screen, an exquisitely designed button allows anyone to interact with the installation and change the image with a single press. This ensures visitors can "skip" images or simply demonstrate the perpetual nature of the image generation.
